If you’ve ever wondered what a sunrise beach session actually feels like — this one is it. Em and Jo’s intimate session was everything I love about couples photography on Florida's Space Coast: emotional, cinematic, a little moody, and completely wrapped in meaning.

We met near the iconic Cocoa Beach Pier before the sun had even risen. The sky was still deep blue, the kind of quiet that only exists before dawn. The air was warm but calm, and there wasn’t another soul in sight. Just the sound of soft waves rolling in from the Atlantic. Cocoa Beach at that hour feels like a secret — like the entire shoreline belongs only to you. As the first light started stretching across the horizon, clouds lingered overhead, creating the most cinematic backdrop. The sun slowly began rising over the horizon, and the sky shifted from dark blue to soft gray and muted gold. It felt intimate. Peaceful. The kind of morning that makes you slow down without even trying.

This session wasn’t just a beach shoot. Em had planned it to celebrate Jo’s final military ball — a way to commemorate such a meaningful milestone in their lives. It was about honoring the end of a chapter and holding onto the feeling of this season before stepping into the next one. Choosing this way to remember it made it all the more beautiful. 

Em and Jo are the sweetest. Playful but romantic. Nothing forced, just natural energy. Those first few minutes are always about settling in, and with them, it happened effortlessly. As the light grew stronger and the sky stayed beautifully moody, their energy softened. They moved closer. The look in their eyes was a sign of their connection and chemistry. Those quiet in-between moments are what I’m always watching for — the ones that feel like memories instead of poses. The authentic, little things. This is why I don't let my camera down throughout the session.

When couples work with me, I guide you the entire time, but I don’t over-direct. I’ll prompt you and give you something to focus on so you’re not wondering what to do with your hands — but I also create space for you to just be together. The magic always happens in the in-between. In the pauses. Reactions to a prompt. In the way you naturally interact with each other. Whether you're high energy and playful or quiet and calm. I want you to be you.

And then they made my day — they walked straight into the water. Fully clothed. Still completely present. There’s something so freeing about ending a session in the ocean. It shifts everything. That's when the awareness of the camera even being there fully disappears if it hasn't yet. The waves wrapped around them as the sun broke through the clouds, and they held each other like nothing else existed. It was cinematic and emotional and real all at once.

Just honest connection against one of the most beautiful, dramatic backdrops Florida has to offer. Sunrise sessions on the East Coast give us a wide open shoreline, incredible Atlantic light -especially in the morning. There's a quiet, still atmosphere that allows you to fully relax into the experience.
